Ruby Dhalla, a Liberal Party leadership contender and possible Canadian Prime Minister, made a strong speech on Tuesday about her views on illegal immigration, vowing to deport if elected.

On the social media platform, Dhalla stated, “As Prime Minister, I will deport illegal immigrants and clamp down on human traffickers. That’s my promise to you.”

From 2004 to 2011, Dhalla, a former Member of Parliament of Indian descent, served as the representative for the now-defunct Brampton-Springdale constituency. She formally entered the contest to succeed Justin Trudeau as leader of the Liberal Party and possibly Canada’s next prime minister.

Dhalla wrote in another post that included a video on social media thanking God. By choosing the first woman of color to lead the Liberal Party and serve as Canada’s next prime minister she said that they are about to make history.

Additionally, Dhalla stated, “Phase 1 is complete. We move on to phase 2 and interact with liberals across who have joined our party. Being formally accepted as a Liberal Party candidate fills me with immense excitement. A completely new group of people will become involved in the Canadian political system and our party as a result of my campaign.”

Dhalla, who was born and reared in Winnipeg, then relocated to Ontario, where she worked as a chiropractor before entering politics under former Prime Minister Paul Martin.

High-profile candidates including Former Bank of Canada and Bank of England Governor Mark Carney and Former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland will be fierce competitors for the position.

She describe herself as a “self-made businesswoman and entrepreneur” who has a strong interest in Canada and the Liberal Party.

According to Brampton, the winner of the Liberal Party leadership contest will be sworn in as Canada’s next prime minister, but the role is dependent on the results of the upcoming federal election because the victor will only take office if the Liberalsare re-elected.
