The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev alleged that the plane that crashed in Kazakhstan resulting in 38 deaths and 29 people injured was shot at from Russia. He accused Russia of spreading ‘lies’ about the cause of the crash and demanded an apology.
President Aliyev claimed that the plane was shot by mistake after it came under electronic jamming while it was approaching Grozny for landing. He called for Russia to accept that it was guilty and punish those who were responsible for the crash.
Azerbaijani leader has called the false narratives spread by Russia about the crash as a clear attempt to cover up the matter.
The disclosure by the Azerbaijani President comes following the apology of Russian President Putin for the incident to have happened in Russian air space however he did not mention any involvement of Russian forces in the crash.
The Azerbaijani airplane was initially supposed to land in Grozny on December 25, but due to the ongoing drone attack by the Ukrainian military on the city’s civil infrastructure, the plane was ordered to land at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan following two failed attempts to land in Grozny.
