Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par witnessed a notable jump in collections on its second day in theatres. Released on Friday, June 21, the film had a promising start and continued its momentum into Saturday, surpassing the ₹20 crore mark in worldwide earnings.

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is being described as a spiritual sequel to the 2007 critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par. The film features Aamir Khan alongside Genelia D’Souza and introduces 10 debutant actors, bringing fresh talent to the silver screen.

According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, the film collected ₹10.28 crore on Saturday in India, showing an increase over its opening day. This pushed the film’s domestic net collection to over ₹20 crore in just two days, including earnings from its Tamil and Telugu versions. The movie recorded a 22.43% occupancy rate for Hindi shows on Saturday, while Tamil and Telugu versions saw 25.20% and 17.42% occupancy respectively.

The film’s performance during different showtimes on Saturday revealed a steady climb throughout the day. While morning shows witnessed an average 13% turnout, the afternoon shows surged to 31.86%, with evening and night data still being compiled at the time of reporting.

Starry Dreams on Earth (as the title translates) also performed well in overseas markets. Its global collection till Friday was around ₹20 crore, including ₹10.07 crore from the Indian box office and ₹7.15 crore from international territories. Regional language versions contributed around ₹50 lakh each to the film’s overall revenue.

Advance bookings played a significant role in the film’s initial momentum. The film reportedly sold over 1.15 lakh tickets across 9,500+ shows nationwide before release, securing approximately ₹3.31 crore from advance ticket sales without accounting for blocked seats. Including those, the opening day’s gross touched ₹6.88 crore.

*Sitaare Zameen Par* is following a theatrical-only release strategy for now, with no confirmed OTT plans. The film has been praised by early viewers for its heartfelt storytelling and Aamir Khan’s performance. Many are calling it a “well-intentioned” and inspiring drama.

The movie is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish sports drama Campeones and aims to highlight themes of inclusion, resilience, and hope through a compelling narrative.
