New Delhi, June 19, 2025 – Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, aged 78, has been discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital following a four-day stay during which she received treatment for an abdominal infection, the hospital announced on Thursday.

Admitted on the evening of June 15 to the hospital’s Gastroenterology Department, Gandhi was diagnosed with an abdominal infection after experiencing stomach-related complications.The condition was promptly managed with medication and dietary adjustments under close medical supervision.

Dr. Ajay Swaroop confirmed the news of her discharge, stating: “Her condition is now stable. She has been discharged and will continue to receive treatment on an outpatient basis”.

This event marks Sonia Gandhi’s second hospital admission in as many weeks. On June 7, during a visit to Shimla, she underwent a routine health check-up at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital after reporting mild discomfort and slightly elevated blood pressure.She was discharged shortly thereafter with no serious concerns raised. Prior to that, she also underwent a routine check-up at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on June 9.

In a brief interaction with media following her discharge on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, her son and current Lok Sabha MP, was present to accompany her home. He highlighted the family’s gratitude for the efforts of the hospital staff and the prayers received from well-wishers, though no official health update was issued on his behalf .
