Abu Mohammed al-Jolani leads Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), whose Islamist alliance allegedly toppled President Bashar al-Assad, ending Syria’s five-decade Baath Party rule. Al-Jolani is the commander-in-chief of the militant group Tahrir al-Sham, one of the most powerful organisations in Syria.
In 2011 Al -julani played a crucial role in planning and enacting on agreement with Abu bakr Al-baghdadi to move into Syria and establish Al Qaeda syria branch also known as jabhat al-nusra.
However in 2016 , Al Julani announced that jabhat al-nusra would break away from al Qaeda and become a new group called Jabhat Fateh Al-sham.
In 2016, Al-Julani announced the formation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a new militant group, and broke away from al-Qaeda. HTS is now one of the most powerful terrorist militant groups.
