Today on December 9 Ministry of External Affairs, India said in a issued state, “We are closely monitoring the situation in Syria in the light of on-going developments. We underline the need for all parties to work towards preserving the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.”

“We advocate a peaceful and inclusive Syrian-led political process respecting the interests and aspirations of all sections of Syrian society. Our Embassy in Damascus is in contact with the Indian community, for their safety and security,” said MEA after the opposition parties captured Damascus.

President Bashar al Assad’s sought refuge in Russia ending both his 13-year-old conflict and his families 5 decades rule over Syria. This dramatic turn of events has led to celebration in Damascus with crowd gathering joy to celebrate Assad’s authoritarian over Syria.

The situation remains fluid with various opposition making significant gains capturing key cities like Aleppo and Homs. While Russia a key ally of Assad’s states that he has left the country with peacefully transferring the power.

The International powers are carefully watching the ongoing developments in Syria. MEA is actively working to promote alliance and development with this new government in Syria and these new developments is the testament to the growing ties with Syria.
