Syrian rebels have now managed to seize control of a fourth main city, Daraa, and continue to fight between the forces of the government. Conditions have worsened as rebels have been acquiring one after the other, starting from Aleppo and Hama. The two cities, Aleppo and Hama were taken by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), while Daraa fell to a local rebel organization. On November 27, the rebel alliance began their onslaught.

The fourth city to name is Homs which is also in danger of being lost by the Syrian government. Rebels have advanced to the country’s border, forcing thousands of people to leave Homs. If Homs were taken, Damascus would be cut off from Assad’s minority Alawite sect’s coastal bastion as well as from his Russian allies’ air and naval bases there. This will lead to chances of isolating the seat of Assad’s regime in Damascus with the ability to block the route northwest from the capital to the sea.

“Our forces have liberated the last village on the outskirts of the city of Homs and are now on its walls,” the Syrian faction leading the sweeping assault said on the Telegram messaging app.

Meanwhile, many countries like China, Russia, the US, and India have all issued travel advice for its citizens advising them not to visit Syria due to the country’s increasing violence.
