Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called up Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin and took stock of the situation relating to floods in the state. Following exceptionally high rainfall, the Viluppuram area in north Tamil Nadu continued to experience catastrophic flooding on Monday. Bridges and roads were swamped, flooding destroyed standing crops and lead essentially, shutting access to villages and residential colonies.

Tragic events occurred at Tiruvannamalai on the evening of December 1st, when rainfall caused a mud slip and a boulder to tumble down a hilltop, crushing a house and resulting in the recovery of five bodies. PM Modi assured all possible help and support to Tamil Nadu owing to the flooding caused by Cyclonic storm Fengal. In 14 districts of Tamil Nadu, Cyclone Fengal has caused unheard-of devastation, hurting 1.5 crore people, flooding 2.11 lakh hectares of crops, and destroying vital infrastructure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lent appropriate Rs. 2000 crore from the NDRF right away in order to support urgent restoration and reconstruction operations, considering the extent of the damage.
