Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met with some of the prominent figures from the Telugu Film Industry on Thursday amid the controversy of the Stampede Case due to the death of a woman at the Pushpa 2 Premiere.
The meeting took place at the Police Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad. The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Sri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Cinematography Minister Sri Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Sri Dil Raju among other senior officials along with actors, directors, and producers including Nagarjuna, Raghavendra Rao, Nithin, Kalyana Ram, Varun Tej.
CM Reddy posted on X, “Meetings were held with celebrities from the film industry. For the development of the film industry… To solve problems…There will be public government support. Assurance has been given.”
What did CM Reddy say?
The CM Reddy in this meeting made it clear that there should be no compromise on public safety and therefore has banned benefit shows and special movie screenings and hike of ticket prices. However, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy hinted that in terms of a hike in ticket prices movies displaying Indian history, freedom struggle, and anti-drug messages might get an exception.
He emphasized that the maintenance of law and order is a collective responsibility and therefore celebrities should also ensure arrangements are in place for crowd control. He further criticized the way private security agents of the celebrities behave which many times just escalates the situation.
CM also urged for the involvement of Tollywood actors and the film industry towards spreading awareness about drugs, women’s safety among other wellness and outreach efforts and to be socially conscious.
Pushpa 2 Stampede Case
The surprised entry of actor Allu Arjun at Sandhya Theatre Management for the movie screening of Pushpa 2 caused a lot of rush which resulted in the death of a woman at this stampede and her son being seriously injured.
The husband of the deceased woman filed an FIR against Arjun which resulted in his arrest on December 13. He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on the same day. However, he was also granted bail on that day and therefore was released on December 14.
