Leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP), Jagmeet Singh has vowed to bring down its ally Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party government. Jagmeet Singh has revealed his plans to introduce a no-confidence motion in the Parliament after its winter recess on January 27.

Jagmeet Singh said, “Justin Trudeau failed in the biggest job a Prime Minister has to work for people, not the powerful. To focus on Canadians, not themselves.” Singh is certain that Liberals don’t deserve another chance. He wanted to allow Canada to vote for a government that would work for them. Taking to his account on X, Singh wrote, “The NDP will vote to bring this government down, and give Canadians a chance to vote for a government who will work for them.”

Trudeau’s party does not possess a majority in the Parliament and has been relying upon NDp to pass its legislation. In a situation like this if a no-confidence motion is introduced in the Parliament then there are high chance of all the opposition parties to unite and bring Trudeau’s government down.

Liberal Party’s resignation will set the stage for election campaigns immediately following the return of the Trump government in the US. This can lead to economic instability for Canada due to Trump’s threat of imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian goods.

Following Singh’s remarks Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized it and mentioned the reason to be Singh’s incapability of supporting the ongoing chaos enabled because of his being a part of the NDP- Liberal Coalition.

Poilievre posted an open letter on his account on X urging the Governor General to reconvene the parliament. He captioned: “I have written to the Governor General to confirm that the Prime Minister has lost the confidence of the House and that Parliament must be recalled to hold a vote before the end of the year on calling an election to cut taxes.”
