On Friday, During an interview President Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine should not have fought when Russia invaded it.

Trump argued that Zelenskyy should have made a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to avoid the war. “I could have made that deal so easily, and Zelenskyy decided that ‘I want to fight,'” Trump said.

“Zelenskyy was fighting a much bigger entity, much bigger, much more powerful. He shouldn’t have done that, because we could have made a deal,” he further added. He went on to compare the number of tanks each country had, emphasizing that Russia had more.

Trump claimed that it was the Ukrainian leader who decided on hostilities even though it was Putin who ordered the invasion of Ukraine that violated a 1994 agreement.

Russia and the United States agreed then to guarantee Kyiv’s security in exchange for Ukraine’s government giving up Soviet-era nuclear weapons that had been stored there before the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union.

Trump has taken a markedly different approach, saying that Zelenskyy is no angel adding that he shouldn’t have allowed this war to happen. Trump also said that if Russia does not move to settle this war soon the United States would put massive tariffs and big sanctions on Russia.
