The U.S. President Donald Trump said that he had a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone to deliberate on the matter to end the war with Ukraine. However, Russia refused to confirm or deny the phone call between US President Trump and Russian President Putin.
Donald Trump had told reporters that he talked with Putin about ending the confrontation in Ukraine and that Putin expressed a desire to see “people stop dying.” Earlier, President Trump had mentioned that dialogues to end the war had “made a lot of progress.”
The U.S. and Russia have not formally confirmed any dialogues between the leaders since Trump took office on a commitment to end the Ukraine invasion war.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he “can neither refuse nor confirm this news.” He added that US and Russia deliberations “through different channels” the more the Trump administration “is gaining activity.” “So… there could be something I don’t know,” said Peskov.
Meanwhile, Trump mentioned in an interview that he “better not say” how many times he had talked with Putin about the Ukraine war.
Ever since Donald Trump took over as the US President on January 20, he has been thrusting to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine confrontation.
During a press conference, Trump, however, was reluctant about disclosing additional information regarding U.S-Russia negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. He did not provide certainty whether he had already talked directly with Russian President Putin.
It has been nearly three years, since Russia started an invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces are making steady progress on the battlefield, while Kyiv is struggling with shortages of men and weapons. Amid such a situation, Donald Trump could soon halt Ukraine’s huge supply of military assistance.
