Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee has condemned the Congress for not holding a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting after her father’s death.

But She supported Congress’s appeal to the Central Government for a memorial place for Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92 on Thursday night.

Sharmistha Mukherjee in a post on X, said alleged that Congress didn’t even “bother” to organise the CWC meeting after Pranab Mukherjee passed away in 2020, saying it wasn’t done for the Presidents of the country.

In a post on X, she wrote, “When baba (Pranab Mukherjee) passed away, Congress didn’t even bother to call CWC for condolence meeting. A senior leader told me it’s not done for Presidents. That is utter rubbish as I learned later from baba’s diaries that on KR Narayanan’s death, CWC was called & condolence message was drafted by baba only.”

This response came after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge requested a funeral place for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Also, Sharmishtha supported the idea of having a memorial for Dr. Singh.

She wrote in another post on X, “Having said that, a memorial for Dr. Singh is a great idea. He deserves it & also Bharat Ratna which baba as President wanted to confer on him; but that didn’t happen perhaps due to reasons which don’t need to be spelled out.”
