Russia on Wednesday released 150 Ukrainian war captives of Russia- Ukraine war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy further shared his efforts to secure the return of all war captives. He said, “Today is a good day for all of us. We are bringing home 150 of our defenders from Russian captivity.”
Zelenskyy announced the successful repatriation of 150 Ukrainian defenders who had been held captive by Russian forces. In a post on social media platform X, Zelenskyy detailed that the group includes soldiers, sergeants, and officers from various branches of the military, including the Navy, Air Force, Air Assault Forces, Land Forces, National Guard, border guards, and Territorial Defense Forces, as well as a police officer.
These individuals were captured during intense fighting in key regions such as Mariupol and the Zaporizhzhia area. Despite serving in different capacities across the frontline, they are united by their commitment to defending Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized the significance of their return, highlighting the sacrifices made by these warriors in the ongoing conflict.
The repatriation comes amid ongoing tensions and hostilities in the region, as Ukraine continues to navigate the challenges posed by the Russian invasion. The return of these defenders is seen as a crucial step in bolstering morale among Ukrainian forces and their families, who have endured the hardships of war.
Zelenskyy’s announcement reflects the broader efforts of the Ukrainian government to secure the release of its military personnel and underscores the importance of solidarity and resilience in the face of adversity.
“Some of these men have been in captivity for over two years. And today, for them and their families, this day carries more weight than all the years of waiting. Seeing them home—alive and free—is true happiness,” he added.
He expressed his gratitude to UAE and all others behind this for their support for Ukraine and its efforts to get the prisoners back. He said, “I am grateful to everyone working to bring our people back. I thank our partners, in particular the UAE, and all those who stand with us on this path.”
The move comes ahead of both Russia and Ukraine consenting to consider a peace agreement and ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which has resulted in massive destruction and loss of lives.
The president’s message resonates with the nation’s ongoing struggle for sovereignty and the commitment of its armed forces to protect their homeland. As the conflict continues, the repatriation of these defenders serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the enduring spirit of those who fight for their country.
