A historic and extraordinary snowstorm has devastated the southern section of the United States, causing more than 2,100 flights to be canceled nationwide. There is snowfall in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida—more than 10 inches in some places.
Roads and aircraft are at a stop due to the extraordinary weather conditions. In Texas, Georgia, and Milwaukee, cold exposure has been linked to at least four fatalities.
The airports in Houston are closed, and beginning Tuesday afternoon, all flights will be canceled at Tallahassee International Airport. All of Port Houston’s facilities will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, although George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport are anticipated to reopen on Wednesday.
There were also reports of blizzard-like whiteout conditions in the vicinity of New Orleans, Louisiana, where locals are currently dealing with their largest snowfall since 1963.
At the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, the majority of airlines have canceled flights.
Schools from Houston to New Orleans to portions of Georgia have also been closed, as have state offices and schools in Louisiana.
