The Italian Navy’s legendary training ship, Amerigo Vespucci, leaves Mumbai’s Indira Dock after a stay of 6 days for Doha as part of its global voyage. This 93-year-old ship, celebrated as “the most beautiful ship in the world,” has already visited 28 destinations worldwide, covering 5000 miles and showcasing rich maritime legacy of Italy.
The arrival was marked by the Villaggio Italia event, transforming the dock into a mini-Italy. Visitors experienced Italian culture through art, music, design, and cuisine. Highlights included an exhibition of Italian design and innovation, a tribute to artist Giotto di Bondone, and a concert by the Italian Air Force band.
The visit, organizers say, is packed with events designed to showcase Italian excellence and foster bilateral relationships across several sectors. The Italian ships stay marks of blend of traditional and modern diplomacy combining naval training with cultural promotion. The visit underscores Italy’s commitment supported by multiple ministries to leverage their heritage while exploring prospects in luxury technology and tourism sectors globally.
Italian Ambassador to India, Antonio Bartoli, emphasized the significance of the visit in enhancing India-Italy relations and expressed optimism about a potential India-EU Free Trade Agreement, calling it a “win-win” opportunity for economic growth.
